Respected Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Shri. Amit Kale Marutirao, IAS, undertook a field visit to the demonstration plots of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), CIARI, Nicobar at Car Nicobar to assess the agricultural interventions being implemented at farmer’s field.The visit began with an interaction at Tamaloo village, where the Deputy Commissioner visited the demonstration plot of Shri. Leslie, a progressive tribal farmer. Shri. Leslie showcased the improved crop varieties and scientific agricultural practices demonstrated and poultry farming. The DC appreciated the farmer’s willingness to adopt new practices and the role of KVK in facilitating on-farm technology transfer.Subsequently, the DC visited Big Lapathy village, where he interacted with tribal farmers Smt. Ester Reginal, and Shri. Patrick,Shri. Jaan Mohammed, who have been actively engaged with KVK programs. These farmers explained their experience with crop demonstrations, soil health management, and vegetable cultivation. The Deputy Commissioner applauded at the tangible improvements in productivity and sustainability of livelihoods brought about by the KVK’s initiatives.He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the district administration and KVK to ensure holistic rural development and tribal empowerment in Nicobar.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the ongoing efforts of the farming community and assured his full support in addressing any challenges through sustainable measures. As part of the visit, he engaged in discussions with farmers and KVK experts to encourage the wider adoption of low-cost rainwater harvesting structures. The visit was coordinated and facilitated by Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijay Puram, and led by Dr. Santosh Kumar, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Nicobar. He was accompanied by Dr. Akshay, Shri Deepoo Meena, Dr. Ajmal S., and Dr. Sanketh G. D., Subject Matter Specialists of the KVK.
