ICAR-KVK North and Middle Andaman, successfully organized a training programme on
“Advanced Agricultural Practices for Cultivation of Oilseeds” at Community Hall, Chainpur
Gram Panchayat from 13 th to 15 th Jan, 2026. The event aimed to strengthen local farmers
knowledge of improved oilseed production techniques suited to island conditions. The
programme was inaugurated byShri Anil Mondal, Sarpanch of ChainpurGram Panchayat. In
his opening address, he encouraged farmers to adopt new varieties of sesame to enhance
productivity and income. During the technical sessions, Mr Rakesh Dawar, SMS Agronomy,
presented an overview of the recommended package of practices for sesame cultivation under
island conditions. Following this, Er. Manoj Kumar shared insights on the use of modern
tools and equipment to improve efficiency in oilseed farming. Mr Subam Debroy brief about
the oilseed-based fish feed formulation, highlighting ways to add value through integrated
farming approaches. To support oilseed production in the North and Middle Andaman
districts, high-quality sesame seeds were also distributed to 20 farmers and farmwomen.
These inputs are expected to support better crop establishment, improved productivity and
more balanced farm output. The training was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr Jai
Sunder, Director (Act.), ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijayapuram. Around 30 farmers and farmwomen
participated enthusiastically, gaining practical knowledge and skills they can apply in their
fields.
