Regional Station, ICAR-CIARI Conducts Sensitization Programme on Sustainable Masmin Production and Byproduct Utilization at Minicoy, Lakshadweep


The ICAR-CIARI Regional Station in Minicoy conducted a "Sensitization Programme on ‘’Enhancing Sustainability in Masmin Production" for the Minicoy Island tribal communities on 01 May 2025. This initiative, funded under the Scheduled Tribe Component (STC), focused on raising awareness regarding byproduct utilization to promote sustainable practices and improve the economic well-being of the local population involved in masmin production.The event convened 131 participants(120 females and 11 males) from the masmin production sector, representing fishermen, village moopans, and community members from ten villages: Funhilol, Aoumagu, Boduathiri, Bada, New Boduathiri, Sedivalu, Aloodi, Kudehi, Fallessery, and Kendiparty.Scientists from the Regional station, Minicoy, Dr. Gladston Y. and Ajina S.M., along with technical staff, Shri Shareefuddeen Hassan and Shri Arif M.I., conducted the interactive program focusing on sustainable practices, quality masmin production, and byproduct utilization. The session facilitated a knowledge exchange on traditional methods and challenges, promoting waste-to-wealth strategies and community engagement in the local language. This initiative underscores ICAR-CIARI’s dedication to sustainable development and responsible fisheries management in the Lakshadweep Islands under the able guidance of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, the Director of ICAR-CIARI.
