ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) conducted awareness
programme on “World Antimicrobial Resistance Week” at Guptapara Village South
Andaman on 21.11.2025. The awareness programme was conducted under the chairmanship
of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR-CIARI, and convened by Dr. R. Kiruba Sankar, Head,
Division of Fisheries. The awareness programme was conducted under the All India Network
Project in Livestock and Fisheries (Fisheries component). During the awareness programme,
the participants were advised on the responsible use of antibiotics in fisheries, livestock, and
human health. Dr. J. Praveenraj, Scientist and Course Director, along with Course
Coordinator Chittaranajan Raul imparted awareness on the alternatives for antibiotics for
usage in aquaculture. Mr. Chittaranjan Raul, scientist spoke on the responsible use of
antibiotics in the contextof one health. The programme was attended by 50 farmers, officers
from public health department, veterinary department, and self-help group. The awareness
programme was followed by healthy fish seed distribution to selected farmers. The awareness
programme received very positive feedback from the participants.
