The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm at ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR–CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, along with its Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) at South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman, and its Regional Station at Minicoy, Lakshadweep, on 21 June 2027. The programme was organized in accordance with the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, emphasizing the vital role of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being and fostering a healthier and more fulfilling life at all ages.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Shri K. Shyam Sundar Rao, Nodal Officer (Yoga), who welcomed Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR–CIARI, along with the employees of the institute. He briefly highlighted the significance of International Day of Yoga and outlined the programme schedule.
A total of 40 participants actively took part in the yoga session and enthusiastically performed various Yogasanas and Pranayama practices. Shri Bikash Chandra Mondal expertly demonstrated Yogic Jogging, Yogasanas, and Pranayama techniques, guiding the participants and helping them maintain correct postures for maximum benefit and safety.
During the session, Shri K. Shyam Sundar Rao explained the guidelines to be followed before, during, and after yoga practice. He elaborated on the health benefits of yoga and the precautions to be observed while performing different yogic exercises. He also administered the Yoga Prayer, Yoga Pledge, and the Closing Prayer.
In his presidential address, Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR–CIARI, emphasized the vital role of yoga in maintaining a healthy body and mind. He encouraged employees and their family members to incorporate yoga into their daily routine for a disciplined, stress-free, and disease-free life. Referring to the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” he highlighted that regular yoga practice contributes significantly to longevity, flexibility, mental wellness, and overall quality of life.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Shri Chandan Kumar, who expressed gratitude to the Director, organizers, demonstrators, and all participants for their active involvement and contribution towards the successful conduct of the event.
